About Me

My name is Liane Nichols and I'll be the Government teacher at Kingwood Park HS for the Spring 2014 semester.

I attended Texas State University, and graduated in December of 2010.  I have a B.A. International Studies with an emphasis on International Relations.  I minored in Geography.  While at university, I was elected President of International Studies Club and Sigma Iota Rho, the honors fraternity for International Studies.  In 2009, I interned with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service Institute.  I've also worked on some grassroots campaigns for a Texas congressman and an environmental organization in Austin.

As far as teaching, I have a couple years of experience.  My senior year at Texas State, I worked as a Supplemental Instructor for U.S. History.  After college, I took my first job abroad teaching English in Thailand.  I worked at Wang Chan Wittaya secondary school in the village of Wang Chan for 6 months.  Shortly after returning home to Texas, I took another teaching job in the country of Georgia with a program known as Teach and Learn with Georgia.  My most current overseas job was in the Czech Republic.  I held private after school English lessons through a company named WattsEnglish.  On the side, I have written several articles and blogs for a recruiting company known as Reach to Teach, who helps teachers find jobs overseas without fees.

After returning to Texas in September of 2013, I started working as a substitute teacher at Kerrville ISD.  I received my invitation from the Peace Corps to work abroad in Kyrgyzstan for two years, but decided to decline the offer in order to start an alternative teaching certification program through Texas Teachers.

This will be my first semester as an official teacher in America.  I love everything that has to do with social studies, especially geography and government.  There may be some trial and errors along the way, but I'm really excited to start the semester!

My school email is Kristen.Nichols@humble.k12.tx.us
