Student Expectations
a.
Be Respectful
i.
In a government course, many different opinions, views, or ideas may be
presented to the class. Please be
respectful of your peers and allow them to express these ideas. The classroom should be a comfortable
environment and no student should fear judgment from their peers. I encourage
students to express their beliefs as long as they do so in a respectful
way.
b.
Be Responsible
i.
By arriving to class on time, turning in assignments on time, and
showing effort in your work, you show me that your care about your academics
and want to achieve. Rather than create
excuses, take ownership of your actions and decisions.
c.
Be Appropriate
i.
Please keep all personal issues and conversations outside. My class time is dedicated to help you
achieve and learn about US government.
Unless it is related to the topic at hand, it does not belong in the
classroom.
d.
Be Cooperative
i.
Students are expected to begin assignments when asked. If help or clarification is needed, please do
so in a respectful, non-disruptive manner - don’t argue.
ii.
Please work nicely with your peers and contribute to the group. When placed in groups, each group will rely
on all members’ cooperation to reach their full potential.
e.
Be Honest
i.
I’d rather a student be honest and tell me something that I don’t want
to hear, rather than have them tell me a lie.
It shows that you know how to take responsibility, which I value
greatly.
f.
Be Positive & Try
i.
We all have our strengths and weaknesses. Be positive, show effort, and let me know
that your care about your work. You may
always ask for help if you need it.
II.
Classroom Rules
a.
No Fighting
i.
Fighting in class is not appropriate.
This includes physical fights, or verbal fights.
1.
Examples: Hitting, punching, kicking, name calling, etc.
b.
Don’t Be Disruptive
i.
Students will be respectful to their peers and allow others to have
their designated speaking time. Speaking
out of turn or shouting out without permission in an unfriendly manner will not
be allowed.
ii.
Any actions that prevent others from working will not be allowed. If you have chosen not to participate in an
assignment, please do not prevent other students from being responsible and
completing their work.
c.
Don’t Destroy The Classroom
i.
Treat the classroom and everything in it with respect. Destruction of school property will not be
allowed. This includes rendering
textbooks useless, writing on school property, or breaking school property
intentionally.
**If a student
fails to follow these classroom rules, a student-teacher conference will be
made. If necessary, behavior issues can
result in parent conferences, behavior modification plans, and in severe cases,
a referral to the office. Please respect
your peers, your classroom, and yourself**
